This album is not exactly the soundtrack of Herzog's Nosferatu. It contains some extracts from the movie score but for me it's simply a great compilation of previous and unreleased works of the band. We can find very contemplative and repetitive tunes that can remind sometimes the Indian instrumental ragua with its transcending and peaceful effects... a kind of mantra, a music from the inside (Mantra, morning sun, Venus principle...). This represents the acoustic side of the band with a lot of sitar, guitars, and tablas. The other part of the album is dedicated to the band original sound in the style of In den garden pharaohs (creepy, celestial and monotonous melodies played on the big Moog...). If you like all the sides of the band from meditative to prog and space-electronic rock, this one is for you. 2003. Philippe / France |

The previous review is in error - there is NO previously unreleased music on this release. This album is actually two previous albums packaged together. In fact, for no good reason at all, the epic opener, Brueder des Schattens, Soehne des Lichts, has been chopped down from twenty minutes to five!! A travesty!! Note also that the comment about In den Gaerten Pharaos is also incorrect. Three tracks (On the Way, Through Pains to Heaven II, and To a Little Way) are sections taken directly from the title track of In den Gaerten but with the percussion lines mixed out. Note also that although the tracks are in the correct order on the discs, the listing on the sleeve (and above) are wrong. Apart from these issues, this is an excellent release for those that don't already have both original albums. 2005. Redcon / Scotland |
