"Die Engel des Herrn" turned out to be one of Klaus Dinger's best albums and so it was a great idea to show the band playing some of their songs live. The band's live album is an insteresting thing. Here they show versions of their songs partly very different from their album versions. Dinger also chose La Düsseldorf's "Viva" as a stormy opening track. "Bitte, bitte!" had been changed completely while "Little Angel" and "S.O.S." sounded quite like on the studio album. "Tschüs" turned into the closing track of the first half of the concert and still sounds fantastic. But they also presented some new songs. "The Song" is an epic Dinger composition, a dreamy piece of music. "The Waltz" has been composed by Gerhard Michel, it's a great anti-war song. After these two there is also a short piece of improvisation Dinger called "Somewhere". But undoubtedly the highlight of this live concert must have been the great 26 minute version of "Cha Cha 2000" with a new double bass solo by guest musician Konstantin Wienstroer. This is the fourth (and not the last) version of this song Klaus Dinger recorded in his career. And still this is a song you can listen to over and over again. It's not only a highlight in live shows, but a highlight of Klaus Dinger's songs. I'm no fan of live albums, but I must admit I had to listen to this one again and again. Unfortunately this band didn't get a second chance, they certainly had much more great ideas in mind. I always loved Dinger's structured songs and here you can hear some of his best. F.B. |
