"Our group was very tight together after several world tours. Many elements of this album had already been "tested" in our performances. As we went into the studio in between live shows, some of that energy found its way to the album. At the same time, it also signaled a temporary farewell.
After extensively touring the U.S., Japan and Australia, we took a long creative break to nurture our motivations and unbroken explorer's spirits."

Andreas Vollenweider

review
This is a masterpiece of beautiful melodies and rhythms from Vollenweider's electric harp.

This music will never grow old or die. The melodies and movement go beyond time. I love your children!

I could never say enough about this album! I first heard it as a child, when my father brought it home on vinyl. Since then, I have listened to it many hundreds of times (not including when I would go to sleep with the CD player on repeat).
As a musician myself, I tend to listen to music with a very technical ear, pointing out mistakes or notes that I would change if playing it myself. Listening to this album, however, is one of the rare times that I just sit back and let myself be taken blissfully away by the music (the same can be said of another Vollenweider favorite of mine, White Winds).
Down to the Moon is, and will probably always be, the most wonderful music I have ever heard, and the absolute favorite of my CD Collection.
(BTW, I still have that original vinyl, it's close to 20 years old now, and I'm happy to say that I've played it to death, it has too far too many scratches now!)

Years ago, when my father bought his first CD player, a copy of Down to the Moon came as part of the package.
After hearing the CD for the very first time, I was hooked on it. The music just sweeps you away. Of course, now I have my own copy of it.
It's amazing that the album is nearly 20 years old, but Vollenweider's music is timeless.
