Brannan Lane - keyboards, percussion, nature.

Please report to the transporter room... This cd is an excellent mix between organic third world inharmonic sounds and serene spacial melodies. Troposphere is where we live, the atmosphere from the earth's surface to miles above it's tallest peaks!

Cover Information Troposphere is another dense and deep "atmospheric" adventure from newcomer Brannan Lane. Indeed, the source of inspiration for the lucid soundscape is Earth's atmosphere. Brannan paints vivid portraits of the strata of our environment. This adventure is both sublime and serene.

I reported to the transporter room as instructed by the liner notes. I put my headphones on and prepared to beam to the spacial (sic) melodies" that Brannan created. The notes also promise an excellent mix between those melodies and "organic third world inharmonic sounds." That promise is fulfilled.

The journey is a slow ascent from ground zero through the layers of our atmosphere (Mesosphere, Thermosphere and Stratosphere). Along the way we will stop and enjoy Solar Winds at the Odyssea.
Again, Brannan proves to be a talented electronician!

2000. Jim Brenholts Brannan Lane is one of the premier ambient artists in the world today. This album is a fine showcase for his considerable talent. It is a journey in five suites through the different layers of atmosphere above the earth, and each layer has it's own mood and characteristics.
The journey begins with "Tropospheric", with thunder, rain, and bell-like sounds and gentle synth washes the listener is transported, drifting through the lower atmosphere.
In the next suite, "Mesosphere", a slightly more menacing drone ebbs and flows, giving way to orchestral sounds.
"Odyssea", the third suite begins with far offbird-like cries, hovering over smooth synth waves. Chiming tones meander over harmonic drones as occasional synths dive and swoosh. Very lovely.
The fourth suite, Thermosphere", has the listener soaring and gliding through air currents with darker drones in a more somber mood.
In the fifth and final suite, "Stratosphere", the mood gets colder, bleaker, and more ominous as the journey winds down. Mere words do not do the subtlety and cohesiveness of this work justice. This music takes you places.

Brannan Lane has crafted a masterful work that is appropriate for contemplation or reflection, and it's a great soundtrack for an out of body experience! Brannan's effortless command of sounds, textures and timbres, coupled with his excellent production make this album a joy to listen to. The music flows together as one long work creating an unforgettable soundscape the listener will return to again and again.
