Synth.nl is new in the world of Electronic Music. Behind this modern and recognizable artist name is the Dutchman Michel van Osenbruggen. On his first album "AeroDynamics" he manages to mix two of his big passions into a very interesting musical whole: Formula 1 racing (well, Michel doesn't race himself but he watches the races with great love and anticipation) and Electronic Music.
The 12 tracks on "AeroDynamics" are not only inspired by cars but also by planes where Michel has a special feeling for as well (he was once an F16-mechanic), especially the aerodynamics of the machines. Cars and planes go fast.
"Fast" is also an idea the listener to "AeroDynamics" might have because most of the compositions have a certain "drive". The music is rhythmically done cleverly and played with much emphasis on melodies. Let’s say, this could be the music that Jean Michel Jarre might have created nowadays. That can be heard very well on tracks like "DownForce" that has a great base melody, "Drag", "Turbulence" in which also modern day Tangerine Dream greets and "Modena" that has an euphoric overall feeling.
In the relaxing "Stall" the rhythms are scaled down a little. In contrast, fans of danceable music are also invited to "AeroDynamics" because a lot of the numbers have moments where the feet cannot be held on the ground.
Within the world of Electronic Music which is primarily one of ambient and Berlin Schoolsequences, Michel’s work is a welcome new and fresh style.

2010. LouLou / Prog-résiste The musician behind Synth.Nl is the Dutchman Michel van Osenbruggen, who started recording music for his concept album "AeroDynamics" in 2006.
Although I can’t say the cd-cover to it is that attractive to me, the twelve tracks on the disc speak their own language. It’s a nice collection of mellow-melodic pieces with proper portioned rhythms which all sound very honest and open.
They are not that fancy, but still well done, sometimes even slightly leaning towards techno/dance kindred music, this due to his fast sequencing style. Especially the first half of the cd creates a very nice mellow and relaxed mood, in which the energizing sounds of racing cars and machines pass by in the sound spectrum.
"Modena" is a weak track in my opinion, lacking composition and sounding a bit too simple compared to the others, although the title track coming after it isn’t that strong either. Nevertheless, Synth.nl is a welcome name in the genre of electronic music, as I’m sure lots of fans will be pleased by his straightforward and warm sounding music.

2007. Bert Strolenberg / Sonicimmersion.org First of all, I want to congratulate Synth.nl with his very first album. The cd tracks sound very refreshing to me. I like the racetrack-samples he used very much. They really give something special to the song.
While listening the CD over and over again, you will find a real cohesion or chemistry between the tracks. Sure, I do have my own favorite tracks but that's personal. You have to listen to it to discover.
I can't wait for the next album and I want to give Michel a lot of positive power for his next production. Thumbs up. One thing more.
The cover, which I like, is something personal. You like it, or you don't. But it doesn't say anything about the music. Like a painting, the frame is just a choice of finishing touch, what counts is the painting itself. You have to look through it.
It is a really good product so I would say, buy it!!!

2007. Chris Wood A Ferrari over Mars! How does it sound to you? Syncopate rhythms which roll on beautiful involving sequences! Does that interest you? Here AeroDynamics, the 1st opus from the Dutch synthesist Michel Van Osenbruggen. As much to say it first, you won’t find complex sequences, nor long atmospheric passages. No, Synth.nl is from Jean Michel Jarre (new grinding) school, Moonbooter and a punchy zest of Kraftwerk. So rhythm, lot of rhythm with solid percussions on unbridles sequences.

With a title like Scuderia, we are not surprise to hear tires bitten vacuum as intro. The tempo is easily install on beautiful stroboscopic sequences and a synth with spacey atmospheres, which encircle a musical setting worthy of the last Jean Michel Jarre. Involving and percussive, Scuderia represents perfectly the musical mood that follows with the 12 other titles on AeroDynamics. Superb melodies with sequences animated of sensuality like Downforce, Stall and AirFlow, are scattered among strong nevrotic impulses such as Drag, Turbulence and Falcon. Admittedly, there are moments with strange and doubtful atmospheres, as the title track, Modena and Lift, but they are quickly packed of frantic tempo which strikes the walls from their jerked effects and musical resonance, though Lift remains rather quiet compared to the remainder.

Simple, but brilliantly effective, AeroDynamics is an album of EM which revolves between the zones of a moderate Techno and short floating ambiances which encircle syncopate tempos, sometimes unbridle.
If you like an intelligent music which strikes audacity neurotics sequencers, Synth.nl’s AeroDynamics is simply indicated to you.

2007. Sylvain Lupari / Guts of Darkness I just finished reviewing a very dark ambient album, and was in need of a fast antidote. I quickly reached for the new disc by new talent Synth.nl, a Dutch musician by the name of Michel van Osenbruggen. I had already listened to it a couple of times, and knew that it would be the perfect way to get my energy back. This is totally fun, upbeat, optimistic music. The album’s title derives from van Osenbruggen’s love of planes, cars, and other aerodynamic phenomena.

We get to hear race cars whizzing by in the opening seconds of the opening track, "Scuderia". Bass synth pulses and skittering percussion set a light tone as bright glassy electronics ensue. Synth.nl lists Jean Michel Jarre as an influence, and that is felt and heard here, a really fun way to start the album.
"DownForce" cools things down with a relaxed, easy listening number. The emphasis throughout is on catchy melodies and rhythms, presented in a way that goes down easy.
Many are playful, such as the bouncy "Maranello". Some slow things down a bit, like the relaxed tunes "Drag" and "Stall", whereas others keep things moving briskly such as fast-paced sequencing of "SuperSonic", "Turbulence", and the particularly ebullient title track.

It would be virtually impossible to be down while listening to AeroDynamics.

Ultima Fronteira This release from 2007 offers 68 minutes of fleet electronic music.
Synth.nl is Michael van Osenbruggen.

Energetic electronics flourish here, creating engaging tunes peppered with sliding punctuations and chugging rhythms. A versatility is present in the electronics. Airy textures roil at the edges, evoking the impression that each song is zooming along. Crystalline chords swirl with jubilant resolve, generating a mood of amiable comfort.
Sharper riffs are triggered by nimble-fingered keyboards, establishing an invigorating effervescence. Deeper tones are utilized to provide a grounding element for the rest of the sounds, enhancing the overall sense of determined movement. The snappy percussion helps to maintain the melodies constant motion, allowing no pause in the breathless flow. The rhythms are tastefully integrated into the mix in a manner that renders the beats into a contributory role rather than a driving force.
This generation of this music was inspired by van Osenbruggen’s interest in racing cars and swift aircraft. A sense of velocity is dominant in the compositions. Bouncy melodies are established and then seasoned with sprightly embellishments that expertly communicate an aerodynamic quality to the listener.
While speed plays a factor, the music is not hyperactive, transmitting rapidity through emotional impact instead of a frantic pace.

Matt Howarth / Sonic Curiosity This has to be one of the best EM cds of the year, no doubt.

First track very reminiscent of JMJ, the rest, JMJ on steroids, the music that is. I also put David Morleys : Ghosts up there with this one as well as Create: Space Time Continuum, and FSP: Gent, Brendan Pollard: Flux Echoes, i know i missed alot others but just to give you an idea.
Sound production and mastering have to be amongst the best i have ever heard. Michel did a fascinating job, building each track into something spectacular, but each piece is different in its own. Everything from the sequencing, drum programming, synth solos , f/x, and sampling are all excellent, you would think he made 20 cds by now, considering the high quality put into this project. Some EM these days lacks quality, you obviously can tell when someone puts their heart and soul into a project like this and Michel certainly did.
Great Job Michel

2008. Mikey / US I'd like to start by saying that there is not one good track on this entire CD. They are all EXCELLENT!
It has been a long time since I have been this excited about an album/CD. Every track on "Aerodymics" is bursting with energy. The theme of the CD is the aerodynamic aspects relating to planes and race cars, etc., and I find the liner notes to be very interesting.
There are twelve tracks in all, and there is a brief description of every piece, what inspired it, and even an education of the aerodynamic terms that are used for titles, which I find to be quite interesting. There is also a brief bio of Michel van Osenbruggen—a.k.a. Synth.nl—and a short description of where the theme of the album came from…every CD should come with an insert like this one, and the album cover artwork is nothing short of phenomenal. Also, it comes packaged in a nice hard-plastic case. I like that.

There are no slower pieces on the entire sixty-eight plus minutes of "Aerodynamics," as they would not be in keeping with the theme. That’s OK though, as every piece on the CD is polished to *PERFECTION,* and the stereo surround sound is exactly as it should be. I have NEVER before heard surround sound production quality like this. Ever. The sounds and tone colors used by Synth.nl are those that can only be produced by a synthesizer, i.e. there are no samples of acoustic instruments present here, which personally—I like.

Synthesizer music in it’s truest form.

2008. Jesse Clark / USA And from the truly inspired imaginings of Synth.nl (aka Michel van Osenbruggen), we have the debut album worthy of some praise and appreciation.

I love the very wisely selective use of sequencers and inserts... there's a love of music here that stretches right back to the heart of the late seventies/eighties and comes skipping relentlessly back to now. Production is rather neat indeed and I know as a MySpace Flight Commander, Michel is adored by the electronica consuming masses!
Watch out for the Jarre reflections; they're well composed and arranged and make you want to take a nice long break to the other half of the sky where this album originates from. My favorite little pieces of magic are delivered in the form of 'Scuderia', 'DownForce', 'AeroDynamics', and 'Falcon' (an appreciation of my kind of avionics!). In fact... Falcon is my all time favorite so far... but the other tracks I didn't highlight are gnawing at me for a second play!

I love this album and I do not care what anyone else has to say.. It's mine now... all mine... Thanks Michel!

2008. Elley Wilson / Canada Aerodynamics is a brilliant piece of work...the best CD i have heard by ANYONE in the last few years...brilliantly composed, recorded, and produced...nice work michel...am already itching for your next release...

2008. Bix Brillo / USA The music by Synth.nl submerges us into a waterfall of vitality and dynamism. Starting from a basis with roots in the Synth-Pop and the most futuristic trends of Techno, the composer shapes a solid collection of themes that gather several of his most personal influences.
In the CD, the listener can perceive, for example, subtle touches of Space Music, Progressive Rock and Electronic Jazz.

2008. Edgar Kogler Michel van Osenbruggen is the man behind the name Synth.nl. Here's a relative newcomer to the music scene since he only started making music in 2005. He's been influenced by a lot of the big names in synth music such as J.M. Jarre, Vangelis, Kraftwerk etc. AeroDynamics is inspired by the aero dynamics of both cars and planes; these inspirations can be found in the liner notes which have a brief description of the background to each track.

Watery percussion and the whine of Formula One racing cars zooming by are our intro to the album in "Scuderia". A build up of volume and intensity leads into the main passage of rippling sequencers and energetic melodies. All the tracks are rhythmic sequencer based, ranging from adrenalin inducing pieces such as "Scuderia" to the slightly chilled out "Stall". The hum of a propeller alongside chittering percussion begin this piece before a pleasing melody comes in winding across the soundscape while pads and other sonic accessories fill out the backdrop. I particularly like the free feeling of this track as though one is in a light plane playfully swooping around the sky.
The title track "AeroDynamics" is one of the racier foot tapping tracks with lots of fast percussion and rhythms. The overlayed melodies aren't anything special but help the musical momentum. In the slower interludes electronic music aficionados may notice a refrain which is surely a nod to Vangelis's Heaven and Hell.

AeroDynamics is enjoyable but one of those albums where no track really stands out, yet it doesn't contain any bad pieces either. This music is brighter than much of the sequence based offerings from the Groove label, and in this respect reminds me of Indra's upbeat work.

Dene Bebbington / Melliflua One of the most acclaimed Groove releases of recent years, this one's inspired by motor racing and so at least has some kind of theme to follow through the course of the CD.

Here we're looking at a delightful mix of Jean-Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk (though as usual with no vocals) created by Dutch keyboardist Michel van Osenbruggen, with the opening "Scuderia" laced with racing car noises, the bouncy "Maranello" layering thumping techno drums under a sweeping melody part, and much use throughout of sweeping flanger and phaser effects to represent the effects of wind and rain on the speeding motor vehicles.

Just the sort of thing you'd hear used on a TV documentary about motor sports, well produced with a good powerful sound mix and even, dare it be said, a touch of humor in its mixture of music and sound effects.

2009. Jorge Sergio / Spain Rhythmic / sequencer music from Dutch synthesist Michel van Osenbruggen. Michel became interested in synthesizers during the late 1980's / early 1990's. It was at that time that he started collecting electronic instruments. After a while a body of work was accumulated and by 2005 Michel was ready to release and promote his material.
Early influences included Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis.
