BBC Radio once described them as, “One of the classiest instrumental rock band on the planet”. Celebrating 30 years since the release of the seminal album ‘For Whom the Bell’, ‘Endgame – The Best Moves’ is a 2* CD compilation featuring highlights from the bands catalogue, remixed and/or remastered. The album not only celebrates the bands unique sound and style, but the extraordinary creative imagination, musicianship and technical expertise that went into each album. Only David Wright remains from the original 1995 line-up, but the band’s talented fluidity has ensured a consistent, high quality musical output that has remained true to David Wright and Robert Fox’s shared vision of the ‘concept style’ album that was the essence and spirit of ‘Code>Indigo’. ================================== Code Indigo – E-Scape 2018 Concert (2CD) https://www.groove.nl/shop/code-indigo-e-scape-2018-concert-2cd/?v=1a13105b7e4e ![]() LTD 200 The sensational E-Scape 2018 ‘Farewell to Robert Fox’ concert performance now available on a limited edition double CD. These two CDs contain all the music, which did not fit onto part 1. ================================== Ashok Prema – A perfect Day https://www.groove.nl/shop/ashok-prema-a-perfect-day/?v=1a13105b7e4e ![]() ‘A Perfect Day’ follows on in style from the 2024 ‘A Quiet Day’ album with another collection of chilled new age music creations from Ashok Prema. Once again, it all has a very relaxed vibe, interspersed with gently rhythmic pieces. The titles perfectly reflecting the gentle upbeat mood of the album. This is a very personal album from Ashok; the tracks are varied and reflect the ‘Perfect Day’ that means so much to the artist. There are echoes of Tangerine Dream in the sequenced tracks, but the album is all about creating a gentle…and sometimes playful mood, to reflect the title. It’s worth mentioning again that while we’ve classed the music as New Age, it really does defy categorisation because it’s simply excellent instrumental music with boundaries. As with many of Ashok’s albums ‘A Perfect Day’ is a very personal album, full of joy and happiness…and so the emotion comes through in a delightful way. ================================== Divine Matrix – Rise of the Sand Gods https://www.groove.nl/shop/divine-matrix-merch-video-community-rise-of-the-sand-gods/?v=1a13105b7e4e ![]() ‘Rise of the Sand Gods’ is a very different electronic music release from Divine Matrix. Every album is a new and unique journey, seemingly better than what has come before., The music is spellbinding, with a wonderful eastern feel…occasionally ethereal male and female vocals punctuate the mix. But this is an album firmly rooted in atmospheric and rhythmic electronic music. Moody undertones and a sense of mystery pervade throughout, and there are hints of Tangerine Dream circa ‘Exit’. But overall, one gets more a sense of a Hans Zimmer style soundtrack. The album manages to finely balances the sequenced elements with the ambient and atmospheric interludes, giving a clever mix of light and shade. ‘Rise of the Sand Gods’ is brimming with inventive and catchy musical themes, peppered with great sequencing and rhythmic motion. Beautifully recorded, in this reviewers mind the best Divine Matrix album to date. Sensational! Definitely a soundtrack to a movie about the Sand Gods. ================================== Divine Matrix – Dark Machine https://www.groove.nl/shop/divine-matrix-dark-machine/?v=1a13105b7e4e ![]() ‘Dark Machine’ is a gloriously dark ambient release from Divine Matrix. It’s to easy to refer to an artist’s latest album as “their best yet”, but quite simply Dark Machine is and it’s sensational! From the drifting brilliance of the opening ‘Enigmatic Structure’, through the unsettling ‘Element Unknown’, the music is spellbinding. There are dangerous undertones in the title track and ominous foreboding throughout the remainder of the album. The penultimate track ‘Mort du Soleil’ offers a hint of optimism with its stunning Tangerine Dream’esq sequencing – a brilliant track. The album concludes with the aptly titled ‘Life Will Find A Way’. Here the music attempts to grasp at fleeting melodies through the darkness. And yet…this is far from a depressing album. In fact, it is an album brimming with inventive ambient music, peppered with great sequencing and rhythmic motion. There were times when I was reminded by tone and feel of the Vangelis track ‘Himalaya’ from the classic album ‘China’. And it could easily be the soundtrack to a sci-fi movie. It’s been on repeat play here…highly recommended. ================================== Cluster – Cluster II https://www.groove.nl/shop/cluster-cluster-ii/?v=1a13105b7e4e ![]() New remastered edition of Cluster’s classic 1972 album, Cluster II. Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius have been making experimental electronic music since meeting at Berlin’s famed Zodiak Arts Lab in the late 1960s. Cluster II was their second major label release, released in Germany on the Brain label in 1972. The sessions were overseen by producer (and Cluster collaborator) Conny Plank. Less “industrial” than Cluster’s debut, Cluster II is still a classic, hailed by aficionado Julian Cope as an important album in his book Krautrocksampler. |
