KRAFTWERK – Pop und Avantgarde
https://www.groove.nl/shop/kraftwerk-pop-und-avantgarde/?v=1a13105b7e4e

In early 1974, Kraftwerk were on the cusp of international recognition with the imminent release of their breakthrough “Autobahn”-album, when they were asked to perform at the large broadcasting hall of the Hessischer Rundfunk HR1 as part of a festival of music. The theme was to be various minimalist concepts under the title “Between Pop and Avantgarde”, with Kraftwerk performing their set on the 25 January 1974, and with some of the performances being recorded and broadcast on German radio. At this point the band had released three albums of minimalist electronic music, one under the name Ralf & Florian, and two as Kraftwerk, and for this performance the core trio of Ralf Hütter, Florian Schneider and Wolfgang Flür was joined by Klaus Röder on electro-violin and guitar, making a unique line-up for this one concert. The band played pieces from their three albums, as well as one from the forthcoming Autobahn. As it was recorded for radio broadcast the sound quality remains excellent. This recording is of such historical importance that it deserves to be heard, as it features a line-up of the band which never made it to a recording studio. This product is officially export banned for Germany…

10. Life Spiral 05:35 Esteemed Spotted Peccary artists Deborah Martin and Erik Wøllo reunite with their daring and vibrant release Kinishba, the follow-up to their dynamic 2009 album Between Worlds, which initiated listeners to another time and place, honoring the Apache people and the sacred nature of Native American culture. Like its predecessor, Kinishba birthed from many years of study, on-site research, recordings, and collaborations with a variety of Apache tribal members, most notably Edgar Perry — who was a significant contributor to the preservation of Apache traditions. This new release entwines the electronic ambient sound that Martin and Wøllo are known for with traditional tribal instrumentation throughout, highlighting these collaborations. “Burial Ground” opens with Martin’s ethereal refrain: “Here I am, Here I stay,” an honoring song for those who have gone before us. From its austere beginnings, the track swells into the hypnotic as Leno Edwards, Alfredo Way and Edgar Perry add drums and vocals of an Apache Crown dance. Martin’s vocals soars with theirs over a lush bed of Wøllo’s synthesizer for the composition’s riveting finale. On “Fort Apache Meadowlarks,” Wøllo’s euphoric guitar glides over a tapestry of Martin’s pueblo shakers, Taos drum loops and vocalizations. The entire work features these powerful sonic realizations engaging the listener in a transformative experience. For Martin and Wøllo, Kinishba is “the house of the ancestors,” the inspiration for this latest work about honoring those who came before, and the healing power of ceremony. Kinishba, named for an abandoned pueblo on the White Mountain Apache Reservation, is a reflection on this theme, a vivid collection of 10 pieces that open a respectful, authentic window into remembrance ceremonies of the Apache people. These compositions are an homage to the traditions of the American Indian, ensuring they can never be lost to time like Kinishba itself. For in Apache, there is no word for “goodbye.”

5. Bioscope Part Iii Bioscope is the highly anticipated collaborative project from guitar maestro Steve Rothery, founding member of Marillion, who has sold millions of albums worldwide and helped define the sound of progressive rock with chart-topping records — and from electronic visionary Thorsten Quaeschning, musical director of Tangerine Dream, credited on over 100 album releases and known for his acclaimed work on major film and game soundtracks. The word ‘Bioscope’ comes from the Greek ‘bios’ meaning life and ‘skopeein’ meaning to look; prior to the invention of cinema, it meant ‘a view or survey of life’. And that’s what Bioscope is about. The first album to emerge from this project is called Gentō, named after the Japanese term for “magic lantern”, a still-image projection system. It started life in early 2020 and after several five-day trips to Berlin over the years, and a few days in Steve Rothery’s home studio, it was finally ready to be mixed and mastered. Each of the five instrumental tracks takes it’s inspiration from man’s endearing fascination with the moving image. They weave together Rothery’s emotive, melodic guitar work with Quaeschning’s expansive soundscapes, creating a mesmerizing journey through light and darkness, memory and imagination, featuring an amazing performance by Elbow’s drummer Alex Reeves. With soaring guitar solos that evoke classic progressive rock to hypnotic sequencer-driven passages reminiscent of Berlin School electronica, the album flows like a soundtrack to an unmade film.
