Space music at his best and already nominated for a Grammy Award!! New in the Catalog!! We have a lot of Djam Karet titles now in the catalog and instock!!

Djam Karet was founded in 1984, by guitarists Gayle Ellett and Mike Henderson, bassist Henry J. Osborne, and drummer Chuck Oken, Jr. They chose as the band’s name an Indonesian word (pronounced ‘jam care-RAY) that translates loosely as “elastic time”. Early Djam Karet was a proto-“jam band” whose live, totally improvised performances on the southern California/LA area college circuit featured a free-form mixture of guitar-dominated instrumental rock and textural Eastern drone music, as on their 1985 release No Commercial Potential. Djam Karet’s mode of working and repertoire gradually expanded beyond improvisation to include compositional elements, field recordings, and studio work.

Djam Karet – The Devouring (Special Edition) (3CD)
https://www.groove.nl/shop/djam-karet-the-devouring-special-edition-3cd/?v=1a13105b7e4e

Originally released in 1997, “The Devouring” is – for many – the best known album in the Djam Karet catalog. The Société Pour Les Enfants Terribles are pleased to announce you can officially pre-order (in North America – more on this below) a 3-CD set spotlighting and celebrating not only this landmark release, but the Djam Karet catalog from 1994 through 1997.

A very limited edition set of 450 (very similar to last year’s “Burning The Hard City/Suspension & Displacement” Special Edition), 2021’s The Devouring” Special Edition first takes you back to 1994. Disc One takes you on a journey first set forth on 1991’s “Suspension & Displacement.” Collaborator, originally released in 1994, consists of Djam Karet working with many of their ambient and electronic contemporaries (Steve Roach, Kit Watkins, Jeff Greinke, Loren Nerell, etc, ). This remastered effort, entitled “Collaborator 2021”, is a fresh new look at this criminally overlooked effort.

Disc Two is a brand new remaster of the landmark 1997 album, “The Devouring.” Originally released on Cuneiform Records, caused one reviewer to state that “…As if the band’s earlier music hadn’t already scorched the ceilings of heaven, this new sonic incarnation burned like a stellar nova.” With a brand new remaster, it sounds as fresh as ever, and brings the album kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

Disc Three takes us into the DK archives, with some great finds. Separated out into two different chapters, part one are some snippets from 1992 and 1993 that had some interesting segments and laid the groundwork for what lie ahead. The real jewels come later, however, with seven(!) complete demos 1992, which show the band had the album pretty much complete…four years before the album was officially recorded!

Rounding off this landmark package is simply striking artwork by Gustaf Fjelstrom of www.botched.com. The first time Chuck saw the final version, he was speechless. It pays homage to the original Cuneiform release but reinterprets it in such a new and vital way, it screams and demands your attention. With all new liner notes featuring extensive interviews with the band members about this time period in the band’s history, it is an essential addition to your catalog.

Djam Karet – Sonic Celluloid

1. Saul Says So 06:07
2. Forced Perspective 04:29
3. Long Shot 04:13
4. No Narration Needed 05:53
5. Numerous Mechanical Circles 04:02

7. Au Revoir Au Reve 04:16

9. Lower 02:58
10. The Denouement Device 04:40

Djam Karet has been making music since 1984, and Sonic Celluloid is their 18th album!

On Sonic Celluloid the group focused in on the idea of “sound as cinema”, and these 10 instrumental tracks demonstrate the group’s ability to create “mini-movies in your mind”. Filled with more melodies and acoustic instruments, and more minimoogs and mellotrons then on any previous album, Sonic Celluloid is their best produced and best sounding album to date. Sure to be a fan favorite!

Djam Karet plays a style of music that ROLLING STONE Magazine described as: “Inhabiting a unique sector where Pink Floydian dreamscapes intersect with the jagged complexity of King Crimson and the improv-guitar happenstance of the Grateful Dead.”

“Never less than exhilarating in its virtuoso interplay, while never succumbing to jam band histrionics”
BILLBOARD magazine

Mark Jenkins – Modular Sessions 26 Les Femmes Electroniques 2
https://www.groove.nl/shop/mark-jenkins-modular-sessions-26-les-femmes-electroniques-2/?v=1a13105b7e4e

MARK JENKINS has assembled a stellar cast from the USA, France, Germany, Argentina, Russia, Poland, Ukraine and Japan to collaborate on tracks which roughly alternate between experimental and up-tempo electronic pop. Russia’s MARIA MATVEEVA worked with world music legends DEEP FOREST to create “Vision”, a slice of rhythmic world pop with dramatic voices, while longtime Berlin resident JAYNEY KLIMEK, originally from Australia and well known for her work with TANGERINE DREAM, was produced by DEPECHE MODE regular GARETH JONES on “Heartbeat”, a quirky piece of sample sliced vocals, drums and synthesizers. PATRICE DE VINCENTIS from the USA has her innovative soundscapes merged with those of several other artists on the CD, while YUMI IWAKI and EWA BARAN are the only artists whose short pieces are delivered entirely solo. LYLI J features instruments from Arturia the music software/hardware company for which she works on sound programming, while fellow French artist KLAIR ZAKI takes us on a “Magical Rollercoaster” of snappy sequencers, bass, guitar and voices. Centrepiece of the album is the remarkable epic “Ukrainian Suite” by ROKSANA VIKALUK which merges voices, synths and the sequencers of WOLFRAM SPYRA into a powerful electro-acoustic world music odyssey. EDEN GREY from the USA is a well-known modular systems experimentalist and conference organiser while KO PANDO an experienced film effects artist from Argentina equally imaginatively manipulates abstract electronic sound textures. Producer MARK JENKINS ties all the track segments together including the use of sounds from the mighty KORG OASYS synthesizer.

Mark Jenkins – Modular Sessions 27 Chasing the Dream Vol.2
https://www.groove.nl/shop/mark-jenkins-modular-sessions-27-chasing-the-dream-vol-2/?v=1a13105b7e4e

Completely unconnected to the recent Tangerine Dream Coventry release, this is the much anticipated second volume of classic era cover versions by Mark Jenkins with special guest Ro Merium. You’ll hear familiar tracks from TD’s Virgin Years and beyond, all with startling new arrangements and combinations of themes. Pieces which are snippets on the original albums or concert sets are fully arranged and extended; tracks are merged into exciting combinations; and familiar TD special Mellotron samples pop up in some very unexpected places.
