Ebondàzzar is an album of varied soundscapes, journeying mostly into the territories of electronica, space rock and possibly Krautrock. At one point there is a step towards synthesized heavy prog as “The Hunt” goes into full flight in its last half. And to cap things off there is even a hint of blues rock with the final track, “Agent’s Lunch”. With the variation presented on Ebondàzzar it is a difficult album to pigeonhole. Highlights are: the hypnotic “Along For The Ride” opening with nice guitar and synthesiser interplay that moves into a Kraftwerk-style of electronica; “Encounter” with guitar synth pyrotechnics conjuring visions of King Crimson, before turning a corner into the symphonic realm; “Nightmist” with vocoder voices and its soaring sequencer melody so readily reminiscent of Tangerine Dream; and the dreamlike “Ocean Of Dreams” that opens with the peal of tubular bells before the synthesisers takeover, and then with the synths being overlaid with military-style snare drumming and tubular bells for much of the journey. ================================= Peak – Slizdexics Unite https://www.groove.nl/shop/peak-slizdexics-unite/?v=910955a907e7  “Slizdexics Untie is groundbreaking – beyond the exceptional musicianship and incredible recording quality, the composition is a combination of flowing and drifting melodic passages peppered with sudden, powerful riff-oriented prog rock movements. “Gorilla Gas” and “The ‘J’ Curve” stand out among a sea of gems, but any lover of quality music – be it progressive or any genre, will find their own favorites, and they will change with your moods as this work is, unique unto itself, “evolving” – something that is experienced rather than listened to. It’s probably the sequencerest album you’ve ever heard – whatever you’re expecting next, it’s usually another sequencer pattern, and with some guitar added (and opening with a nice vocoder poem in the style of “Cyclone”) the album appeals equally to fans of TANGERINE DREAM, Klaus Schulze, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, PINK FLOYD and more. The result is being described as sounding like “Tangerine Dream meets Hawkwind”, or “Jean-Michel Jarre jamming with Carlos Santana”. The technology used to achieve this groundbreaking style involves everything from 20-year-old kit-built synthesizers to the massive triple keyboard yamaha ex1, via computers, samplers and exotic rhythm machines. Epic tracks with running times from 4 up to more than 10 minutes typically open with multiple analog sequencers, overlaid with electric and acoustic guitars, samples, vocoders or recorded voices. From 1971 to 1977, Baumann was a member of legendary Berlin band TANGERINE DREAM, pioneers of the so called Berliner Schule (Berlin School) which had such a profound impact on electronic music. He produced a number of momentous albums at his Paragon Studio (by the likes of Conrad Schnitzler, Cluster, Roedelius) and also enjoyed success as a solo artist. The influence of Tangerine Dream can clearly be heard on “Romance 76”, although the arrangements are comparatively minimalist—a state of affairs for which David Bowie can be held partially responsible!
