E-News 1453 – April 4th 2026

Dear Fans of electronic music.

Last week I received from Bert the terrible news that Serge Devadder has passed away. I did not want to post it in the last E-News as I could not believe it. And it was send just before I got the final conformation. Serge was such a warm guy, so full of fun and a great ambient artist. Serge Rest in peace, be among the angels now! And all my thoughts are with his family

07 – The Power of Love – 6:39.22
08 – Red Moon – 9:49.57 Total CD – 1:14:01.65 It’s been almost 25 years since Axel released his first solo album, “First Light,” under the pseudonym Axess. Now, on April 10, 2026, his eleventh album, “The Power Of Love,” will be released. In this quarter-century, Axel’s music has undergone a significant transformation. Little remains of the electronic music he originally made, heavily influenced by the so-called Berlin School; this style of music is now pursued by Axel in his project Pyramid Peak. As Axess, the 58-year-old musician, born in Leverkusen but now living in Meerbusch, presents a considerably more subdued sound. Since the 2017 album “Seashore,” Axel’s music has taken on a much more chilled-out, almost ambient, character. Expansive soundscapes, long reverberations, subtle rhythms, and chill beats define the music of his last four albums, and “The Power Of Love” is no exception! The eight tracks, ranging in length from 6:39 to 12:30 minutes, glide smoothly and hypnotically through the ears, allowing the listener to forget all the stresses of everyday life for nearly 75 minutes. All the songs move at a tempo of 70-94 bpm, leading to profound relaxation and encouraging imaginary journeys through space and time. The quality of both the songs and the overall sound has improved significantly compared to its predecessor, thanks in part to the final mastering of the CD by Axel’s longtime friend and musical partner, Max “maxxess” Schiefele. With “The Power Of Love,” Axel opens a new chapter in his musical career, as this CD is the first to be recorded entirely in his new “Reinklang Studio” in Meerbusch. Axel also leaves behind the past few personally difficult years and looks optimistically and full of inspiration toward a new, happy future. This positive, albeit sometimes slightly melancholic, mood runs like a common thread through the new CD and also includes one or two catchy tunes.

Bluetech – Petite Constellations
https://www.groove.nl/shop/bluetech-petite-constellations/?v=910955a907e7

Evan Bartholomew, known professionally as Bluetech, is a widely respected figure in the electronic music world. His work spans a broad spectrum, from deeply atmospheric ambient and downtempo to progressive, groove-oriented dance music. Bluetech’s sound is characterised by rich emotional texture, intricate sound design, and a unique atmospheric quality that blends organic elements with cutting-edge digital production techniques. This new album is his second excursion on the DiN label, having previously released ‘Liquid Geometries’ (DiN57) in 2018. ‘Petite Constellations’ sees Evan sonically exploring in a whole new direction. As the word ‘petite’ implies, the thirteen tracks on this album are musical miniatures, in a way reminiscent of the concise form of some of Erik Satie’s famous piano works. The album was conceived as a subtle homage to Mort Garson, specifically his album ‘Mother Earth’s Plantasia’. It is a series of vignettes, both cosmic and microscopic in scale. It is unabashedly melodic, with contrapuntal analogue synth lines that weave and intertwine around each other. Subscribing to the concept of ‘as above so below’, whereby the microscopic world mirrors the realms of the macrocosm, there is so much detail in these compositions that will slowly unfurl their beauty over multiple plays. This album is a collaboration between the DiN label, who will be releasing the album on limited edition Digipak CD, and Behind The Sky, who are producing it on vinyl. Both editions are beautifully produced and feature the same artwork.

9. Johannes Schmoelling – Icewalk (Remix 2025) from WHITE OUT (1990) (Schmoelling) 6:49Tangerine Dream was a pioneer in electronic music.
Starting out in the early 1970s with an experimental approach to different sounds, effects and sound collages, they developed their distinctive style in the mid-1970s, placing sequences at the centre of their compositions. The repetitive sound patterns had a hypnotic effect that fascinated many.
The Tangerine Dream formation Baumann/Froese/Franke combined this stylistic device with mysterious or atmospheric sounds and improvised melodies, creating long works that took the listener on a journey to another world.
The Berlin band Tangerine Dream thus shaped the style of the so-called ‘Berlin School’.In the 1980s, film music played an increasingly important role for the band, and not least due to Johannes Schmoelling joining the band, the music became more catchy, rhythmic, melodic and varied in terms of harmonies. This led to the creation of the well-known Schimanski Tatort single release ‘Mädchen auf der Treppe’ (Girl on the Stairs) with the collaboration of Schmoelling.
Tangerine Dream continues to exist today with various line-ups.
For many musicians, Tangerine Dream of the 70s and 80s is particularly influential and inspiring. As you can hear, each musician has found their own way of expressing themselves with synthesizers, sequencers and electronic sound generators.
What unites them all is their fascination with Tangerine Dream.
Just like Tangerine Dream, all of the musicians involved create their own dream world: ‘Keep On Dreaming’It is a special honour that Johannes Schmoelling, former member of Tangerine Dream, has enriched the compilation CD with a special track.Johannes Schmoelling comments: ‘Since my participation in “Synthfest France” in 2017, the encounters I had with French musicians at that time have developed into genuine friendships that continue to this day. A musical collaboration such as this CD is therefore only logical. I am all the more delighted that this project is dedicated to the band Tangerine Dream, as I was a member of this band for many years.’

wo years after their last album, which was highly praised by the music press and fans, NAUTILUS are back with their new work, ‘A Castle Full Of Secrets’. This time, the journey takes the Nauticians to Eastern Europe, more precisely to the Carpathian Mountains. There, on a storm-tossed plateau, stand the ruins of an ancient castle. But what dark secret do the walls hold? Fans of the writer Jules Verne (1828-1905) will already have guessed: the tenth NAUTILUS album is once again based on a novel by the French author. This time, the German band led by Martin Ludwig has taken on the 1892 novel ‘The Carpathian Castle’ and set it to music. The result is eleven new songs that deal primarily with Verne’s novel, but as usual also leave room for individual thoughts. Ludwig’s dreamy sounds, sometimes elegiacally flowing, sometimes energetically pulsating, repeatedly meet the compositions of his fellow musicians Jürgen Dürrbeck (synthesizer & sequencer) and Werner Strätz (electric guitar). Voices, such as those of singer Meiko Weigel (bass, vocals, samples) or Elmar Darimont in the intro, are used sparingly; instrumental passages are clearly in the foreground on this album. Anyone who has accompanied the band on their journey through electroacoustic soundscapes so far can close their eyes and let themselves go with ‘A Castle Full Of Secrets’ with a clear conscience: NAUTILUS are as retro as it gets, without ever seeming old-fashioned or degenerating into mere copies of their musical idols (whose influences are unmistakable). Welcome aboard!
