Five Miles Out saw Mike Oldfield employ a format that was a compromise between the long, slow-developing pieces which brought him fame, and the commercial reality of the need to produce radio-friendly tracks. It consists of one long piece on Side 1, and several tracks of more conventional length on Side 2 (Orabidoo” is the odd man out at thirteen minutes). The system worked well for him here
