E-News 1307 Januari 22th 2023
Hello All.

Thanks for all the nice and uplifting reactions on the new site.
Also for the criticism, we take that serious also!
Many enjoyed the new look and the layout.
Some missed a few things on the new site so we are working on that.

Most pointed out is the missing of the alphabet search that we had on the former site.
Well that is going to be resolved very quick! We hope to implement this this week.
We expected with the very good search engine where you could just type the name of an artist and see all his releases that it would be a good replacement, but some how many like the scrolling through lists fo releases 🙂 We hear you!!

An other question from customers is “do I need to create a new account for the new site. Or can I use my old log in”. YES you have to !!
Sadly we could not transfer that info. That old system was from 1995 and it would have cost so much in money or time to transfer that it was not doable. So when you now order then you have to make a new account. Sorry for this inconvenience.

Good news is that it is now much easier to add reviews or comments to your favorite (or not so favorite) titles in the catalog. You can add those easy and after I reviewed it (yep spam comes in also, so we have to monitor this) it will go online. I love this new features it saves Monique and me zillions of time, we don’t have to add them any more by hand 🙂

For the rest I am very pleased with the transfer, and like I said we are still improving things. And if you have remarks or comments let me know (ron@groove).
As this also makes adding new titles easier then before the whole catalog will grow each week more and more. If I put all of these in E-News there is just less room for reviews. If you miss those then just tell me, then I will just add a few each week again in E-News.

I will make a new Dreamscape radio show tomorrow and upload it so from Monday the 23rd (afternoon) you can enjoy that!! And thanks for all your time.

Ron Boots

And now to the good news!!
The special TD items from Varèse Sarabande are in stock and now available. Keep in mind these are limited amounts!! We don’t know if we ever get new copies in 🙂
Here we go: Tangerine Dream specials Tangerine Dream – Three O’clock High
https://www.groove.nl/shop/tangerine-dream-three-oclock-high/?v=796834e7a283

Three O’Clock High was an offbeat take on the ’80s high school comedy. Stylishly directed by Phil Joanou (U2’s Rattle and Hum, State of Grace, Final Analysis), the film is more Scorsese than John Hughes, starring Casey Siemaszko as a nerd forced into an afterschool rumble with a psychopath bully, played by Richard Tyson. The film became a cult hit on home video, and is helped enormously by its moody, dynamic, pulsating score by German synthpop legends Tangerine Dream (Sorcerer, Thief, Risky Business).

Director Joanou was desperate for the band to score the film and was overjoyed when they agreed: “The Berlin sessions with Edgar Froese and Paul Haslinger were a (tangerine) dream come true,” he writes in new liner notes for this release. “At their studio next to the Berlin Wall, we worked for several weeks crafting each cue… The things they could coax out of a keyboard, as well as guitars, bass, and drums, were just incredible. I was blown away.”

Out of circulation for decades, Three O’Clock High is presented in remastered form for this long overdue release, with Tangerine Dream’s 15 tracks supplemented by additional music by Sylvester Levay (when the filmmakers needed more cues and couldn’t afford to return to Berlin) and the prominent song by Jim Walker, “Something to Remember Me By.”

Limited to 1000 copies. Tangerine Dream – Firestarter (2022 Release)
https://www.groove.nl/shop/tangerine-dream-firestarter-2022-release/?v=796834e7a283

Varèse Sarabande revisits the glory days of 1980s sci-fi “synthwave” with a new edition of Tangerine Dream’s classic electronic score for Firestarter (1984). Firestarter, based on a 1980 book by Stephen King and directed by Mark L. Lester, starred eight-year-old Drew Barrymore as Charly, a girl with pyrokinetic powers owing to her parents’ participation in a secret study of hallucinogenic drugs. When the agency behind the experiments comes for Charly to weaponize her powers, led by an assassin played by George C. Scott, she goes on the run with her father. Firestarter came amidst the 1980s film-scoring heyday of German synth band Tangerine Dream, in their well-known lineup of Edgar Froese, Christopher Franke and Johannes Schmoelling. The band’s pulsating textures and ambient soundscape reinvented film scoring in films as varied as Thief, Risky Business, The Keep, Legend (U.S. version), Three O’Clock High, Near Dark and Miracle Mile, and have cast a long shadow on future styles. The band considered Firestarter one of their most challenging scores, as they needed to provide not only suspense and pace for the paranormal chases and powers, but an emotional sensitivity to the child protagonist. New liner notes by Randall D. Larson explain how the band did not score to picture, but created “wild” cues to be used by the film’s music editors. Hence this 11 track program is the same as MCA Records’ 1984 soundtrack album, released by Varèse Sarabande on CD in 1990, and newly remastered for this long-awaited reissue. Limited edition of 1,500 copies. FIRESTARTER (“FUEGO” VINYL LP)

Forests are ambient communities of textures, sounds, and lifeforms, all of which interact in a miraculous web, vibrating and dancing with the elemental forces of nature. They sustain life for the planet, bear silent witness to history, and form containing spaces which can attract and hold the emotional energies of all sentient beings, from fear and grief all the way to delight and awe. Forests are also storytellers. When immersed in the woods, we also become woven into a majestic yet intimate tapestry of light and shadow, becoming part of the story. When I was a child, I would often imagine that I could hear the trees sing after a deep, cleansing rain. There were no words, simply the sense of an emerging cluster of sound, radiating what I imagined to be relief and gratitude for the nourishing waters that fed their roots. The idea of a singing forest is what piqued my curiosity about integrating the human voice and especially vocal ensembles into ambient music in a way that honors the primacy of texture. Voices emerge slowly—often beginning before awareness—and then recede, much as the constantly shifting textures of the forest do, all creating an atmosphere of quiet, radiant timelessness. This album invites the listener into a verdant, ambient oasis, where layers of subtle vocal textures form a living tapestry evoking the beauty and magic of forests past. Impressionistic and introspective, this music is also a tribute to the forests which—whether through natural aging, climate change, or destructive human interaction—no longer exist in this realm. Michael Hoenig & Göttsching – Early Water

Early Water   48:28

In 1976 originally Manuel invited MICHAEL HOENIG to join the tour as ART. Both rehearsed for about four weeks. As some shows had to be postponed, Manuel had to tour alone because of Michael’s obligations. But they have recorded some of the rehearsals and the music was released 19 years later in the summer of 1995 as Early Water by Hoenig/Göttsching.
These 4 CD’s where added to the catalog during the transition and dropped from the new site as they where not a part of the import when we did this. The have now been re entered and you can now also order them from the new site!
