Ombient) finds inspiration in an almost mythical past of 1970s Berlin, while pursuing the present day’s desire for modernity. Sectio Aurea is in part Hunter’s own interpretation of the classic Departure From the Northern Wasteland – a further cultivation of Michael Hoenig’s imaginings by a musician who recognizes the value of this work. Working in a genre often thought of as too dependent on hardware, Hunter explores the ways this music may convey the truth of complex subject matter. With a whirlwind intelligence in its glowing prime, he connects to strategies central to Spacemusicians across the globe. We are swept away by an enveloping sense of magic, forgetting for an instant our critical spirit. Electricity is transformed into sound through an impressive collection of vintage and modern modular synthesizers and keyboards. Large sonic forms dominate the soundfield. The engaging locomotive power of Hunter’s sequencer manipulations and breakdowns bring a pumping pulse to Sectio Aurea. An ever-evolving rotating syncopation feels captivating to us – gained as the firing order of arpeggio notes spiral down into unpredictable slots. A highly specific set of possible chromatic symmetries support a range of confident synth lead lines. The refined electronics perfectly integrate with the sounds of acoustic origin — the magic is enthralling. The sonorities of original ethnic instruments such as the psaltery, the rebab (a low stringed instrument similar to the lute, with resonating strings), and the duduk combine with the understated textures of synths, drones and loops. The eight pieces move through pure ambient streams, almost ancestral, evolving out of time. It’s a fluid, beatless territory that drifts, in the course of seventy minutes, through pure ambient vistas and the call-to-prayer feel of sacredly inspired music. lio explains, “The eight musical creations from the deep reaches of the earth push to the sky with extreme mastery and power. The symbiosis of the colors of the soundscapes reflects the extreme specularity of the palette Lorenzo and I each bring to the work as companions of poetry, chasing and blending without stopping among the chasms of the abyss up to the top of the highest mountains. The water cycle traverses every realm of existence. It breathes life into the earth from gaseous regime to flowing fluid to glacial crystal. It’s nature as a vital balm also allows you to absorb the information, the pattern, the rhythm of the material it encounters on its way. It is the place of immersion. The cycle of life but also the cycle of a sensitive identity, so we become continuously. The temple of life is built on the water cycle which expresses and lays the foundations of any biological connection. In the dialogue of the water the light rays are reflected, the colors of the sky and of the green, the perfume after the rain, or after a snowfall, the mists and the rainbows, the dew, the tears.” The semi-ritual echoes of Dialogue of Water connect within a spectrum of meditation and emotional soundscapes. The boundary is liquid: the perfect translation of a perpetual flow veiled by a surrounding graceful mood. ———————————————————————- You – Laserscape https://www.groove.nl/shop/you-laserscape/?v=796834e7a283  Originaly Laserscape by YOU released in 1986 this is the re issue by Bureau B. Laserscape by this German electronic combo YOU really took me by surprise. Mainly because it came out in 1986, certainly not a favorite time period, musically, for me (OK so I was 13-14 at the time, and definitely wasn’t interested in what was popular at the time like hair metal and synth pop). Tangerine Dream’s Underwater Sunlight from the same time I felt was pretty mediocre. Laserscape is much better! This is how I felt electronic music should have went in the ’80s. By 1986 it was clear electronic music had either went synth pop or New Age. YOU refused to go that way. Here they use lot of digital synths and samplers, but what’s shocking is they use Mellotron on this album and puts it to good use here! It’s really difficult to find recordings from the mid 1980s using the tron because everyone preferred the convenience of digital synths, which were widely available by ’86. They even use sequencers which Tangerine Dream had abandoned by this time. What I love is they often conjure up an eerie and ominous atmosphere, something that Tangerine Dream lost by this point (to be honest, Underwater Sunlight sounds pretty harmless, that’s why I’m not a fan of it). I’m usually not a fan of how many artists in the ’80s were using digital sampling, but these guys take a rather interesting and creative use of it. The cover makes it look like you’re getting another typical sterile, soulless ’80s type of album, but I’m happy to say that’s not what you get here. Quality control really went awry in the ’80s, so obviously I didn’t have high expectations with Laserscape. I was expecting an Underwater Sunlight type of album, and instead got something much better and pleasing, the way I felt 1980s electronic music should have been like. Plus the presences of Mellotron sure helps! I am generally not a fan of digital sounds, but this group did it in a way to make it sound very appealing. This album actually comes recommended by me.
