E-News 1470 – Sep. 26th 2026 |
| Welcome to a new E-News. In August I had a great interview with Marius-Christian Burcea. Bert Strolenberg made the connections between us and now you can listen to it online!! The interview with music is a nice 90 minutes long! Here is the intro txt from Marius. Few artists have contributed to electronic music from as many different perspectives as Ron Boots: synthesist, label owner, festival organizer, and radio host. In this episode of Journeys to the Infinite, Ron reflects on the defining moments of his career, from discovering Pink Floyd, Bo Hansson, Mike Oldfield, and Tangerine Dream as a teenager to recording his first albums, founding the Groove Unlimited label, and helping transform a small fan initiative into one of Europe’s longest-running electronic music festivals. We also discuss the evolution of the Dutch scene, his commitment to artistic independence inspired by Edgar Froese, and the collaborations and solo albums currently taking shape in his studio. And here you can find it!! Enjoy!! https://www.journeystotheinfinite.com/post/ron-boots-walking-the-groove ================================ Only 2 more weeks to E-Live 2026. Stephan is like a chameleon, blending in with every act and band he plays with, be it David Wright, John Dyson, Wavestar, Jez Creek, or myself. Stephan brings energy wherever he goes. When we make music in the studio , Stephan is the driving force who lays down the first tracks. I am the technician following Stephan’s musical moves, and after a while, I start adding my own musical parts. It is like a symbiosis that always comes together in the end. Stephan’s visits are always a joy, whether we talk, watch a movie, or simply walk around the mill. The Cosmic Mill always blends our thoughts and feelings together. The partnership between the legendary musician and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto and the German artist Carsten Nicolai (aka Alva Noto) has produced some of the most distinctive and enduring works in contemporary electroacoustic music. Beginning with Vrioon in 2002, the artists spent more than two decades fusing and expanding their disciplines, with Sakamoto’s evocative, sustain-drenched piano compositions finding their counterpart in Nicolai’s skilful and sensitive electronic detailing. Each successive project further deepened their artistic dialogue: from the five studio albums of the V.I.R.U.S. series (Vrioon, Insen, Revep, Utp_with Ensemble Modern, and Summvs), to their score for Alejandro G.Iñárritu’s The Revenant; Glass (2017), a wholly improvised performance inside Philip Johnson’s iconic Connecticut landmark, in which the pairfixed contact microphones to the glass walls, playing the architecture itself as an instrument; and Two (2019), a document of their live performance at the Sydney Opera House. Across these works, their distinct approaches achieved a rare synthesis, a brilliantly sustained dialogue between piano and electronics, Sakamoto’s warmth and melodic finesse meeting Nicolai’s abstract electronic formalism to invoke a mesmeric quietude as deeply satisfying in its melodic resolutions as in the merger of its filmic romanticism and meditative subtlety. 12 Conversations brings together musical exchanges recorded in November and December 2022. Rooted in the same creative period that gave rise to Sakamoto’s final solo album 12, these recordings were not originally intended as a standalone release. It was only after the completion of 12 that Sakamoto and Nicolai decided to present the seex changes as a work in their own right. The album reflects the vitality and curiosity that defi ned more than two decades of shared inspiration: fluid, exploratory, and forward-looking. Created with openness and trust, it captures a creative process inconstant transformation – sounds expanding, altering, and evolving through attentive listening. Conceived as the continuation of an artistic dialogue extending beyond the physical, 12 Conversations honours Sakamoto’s wish that the seen counters should exist beyond the archive, offering an enduring testament to one of contemporary music’s most revered collaborations. Carsten Nicolai writes: “A heavy breath can be heard in the recordings. Yet this work is not about remembrance but continuation, vitality, curiosity, and the spirit of experimentation that shaped an artistic relationship over decades. The twelve pieces we exchanged in November and December 2022possess extraordinary density: sounds expanded, altered, recontextualized. Initially, every intervention felt almost inappropriate. Yet this was part of our openness and trust: adding, shifting and radically yet softly transforming. Even in these final exchanges, plans for future projects continued to take shape, mindful of finite yet firmly believing in the power of new ideas. We chose the name Conversations, which has become a space of memory and vision, where past, present and future intertwine. For a long time, releasing this music seemed impossible. The loss felt too sudden, and the emotional connection too profound. As time passed, it became clear that these twelve musical encounters should have life outside the archive. To honor Ryuichi’s wish, these pieces are now being released as the continuation of a dialogue that extends beyond the physical =================================== Erik Wollo – Gateway 2CD (Remaster) https://www.groove.nl/shop/erik-wollo-gateway-2cd-remaster/ ![]() Tracklist CD 1 1 Land Of Myths 2 First Arrival 3 The Crossing 4 A Sublime Place 5 Gateway 6 Blue Universe 7 The Traveler 8 There Will Be Snow 9 The Mental Trail 10 Full Circle 11 Wetlands 12 Thule Tracklist CD 2 1 Gateway 2 2 Time Fracture 3 Everywhen 4 Isotope 5 Blue Tapestry 6 Vandring 7 Peaceful Mind 8 Sunburst Erik Wøllo is an architect of poignant, ethereal and elegant electronics, a poet of ambient atmospheres. This 15th anniversary remaster of his classic GATEWAY includes a bonus disc with eight additional unreleased tracks mostly from the 2010 era. Known for highly lyrical and vivid sonic spaces, Wøllo’s 14th album bridges grand harmonic realms and gentle, serene environments. John Diliberto of Echoes Radio wrote back in the day, “Celestial evocations inspired by the night skies in the land of the midnight sun. It’s hard to resist picking an Erik Wøllo album as a CD of the Month…. On his latest, GATEWAY, there’s no denying the way he sends you piloting down canyons, soaring between mountains and launching on trajectories somewhere toward the heavens… One of the most distinctive voices in contemporary instrumental music… Step through Wøllo’s GATEWAY and you’ll see his world revealed.” To create the remastered edition, Wøllo went back to the original stereo digital mixes, running them through analog equipment and the latest high resolution plug-ins. Showcasing amazing depth and clarity, the remaster has an enhanced sound: a more detailed, transparent and wider audio spectrum with greater sonic cohesion. Erik says, “It was very exciting to revisit this album. So many memories from 2010, almost like looking through old photos from the past. I could not have done this music any better today, but the remastered version gives a more exact feeling of what I was trying to do at that time. The bonus disc includes 8 previously unreleased tracks. A couple are brand new, some are from the same period as GATEWAY, and a couple are tracks from the late ’90s I brought back to life using MIDI data to control the same equipment I used at that time. I have kept all my synthesizers from these periods; it was a joy to fire them up again. All these bonus tracks are remixed from old multi-track and the original MIDI files.” This sparkling remaster is a luscious work, kindling feelings of nature inspired by Wøllo’s Norwegian homeland. Created over two years in the late aughts, GATEWAY is a fine-tuned collection of carefully crafted compositions. The melodic guitar work and expansive electronics create evocative passages that combine intense and serene moments with masterful performances. Wøllo reflected at the time of the album’s release, “There is always a meditative attitude, recollections from dreams and reality suggesting the mysterious. Every artist has their own unique inner landscape that emulates where they were born and raised, influencing the creative expression. By reflecting all the different kinds of music that you have been hearing through your lifetime, GATEWAY is a mirror of time.” Matt Rowe from Music Tap: “It’s so refreshing to hear such grandly orchestrated music in the ambient framework that the first spin of GATEWAY should have fans of ambient compositions completely in thrall to Erik Wøllo… No matter your preference, Wøllo’s new album is the key to multiple dreamworlds. It also unveils an extraordinary talent, one that draws on the influence of the masters of the past, yet crafts music that is uniquely his own, music that will etch Wøllo into your mind as one to be enshrined with those same masters. Immeasureably recommended! Chuck van Zyl from Star’s End: “Bypassing verbal thought, connecting directly with the mind, his fluid lead melodies speak, as if in a voice, directly to the listener. Wøllo uses guitar as the primary instrument in which to convey his message… From stark simplicity to prog-influenced anthems Wøllo’s spirit comes out in the precision and detail of his work – as it touches the best part of us.” =================================== gr-403 – Colin Rayment – Lumen available as CD/MP3/FLAC https://www.groove.nl/shop/colin-rayment-lumen/ ![]() Lumen explores how darkness, brightness, and balance, each shape what we believe – proving that perspective is everything. The project tries to capture how light influences emotion and meaning, revealing that even small shifts in perception can redefine everything. Inspiration was also taken from how light changes what we see and how what we see changes what we believe. Because nothing looks the same in every light. ================================== Now instock (we ship Monday!!) but the MP3 will be send directly) gr-404 – Paul Ellis – Structures For Interdimensional Transfer available as CD/MP3/FLAC https://www.groove.nl/shop/paul-ellis-structures-for-interdimensional-transfer/ ![]() Sequenced motions in endless space. On this instrumental journey, atmospheric synthesizers, guitars and acoustic sounds merge into a multi-layered soundscape that moves between stillness and powerful motion. Inspired by mist, wind, stone, altitude and solitude, the album explores that particular experience that emerges when everyday life falls away and only the path, the landscape and your own rhythm remain. Berggeist is a musical approach to the mountains – not as a backdrop, but as a direct experience of vastness, transience and a natural world that does not submit to humankind. About this album Berggeist continues the musical path of Waldgeist without repeating it. Electronic instruments once again form the sonic foundation, but this time guitars and acoustic elements play a more prominent role. The music moves between quiet, meditative passages and rhythmic, powerful moments. Rather than portraying specific landscapes, I wanted to capture the feeling of being on the move: the contrast between exertion and rest, closeness and vastness. The result is an album about movement, altitude and solitude – and about what the mountains do to us when we allow ourselves to truly experience them. ================================== 7even channels – Signals of the Monolith https://www.groove.nl/shop/7even-channels-signals-of-the-monolith/ ![]() 1. It is at once exciting, highly dynamic, and extremely versatile. 7 Channels consists of the artists Aksael, Cayamko, dbKleloo, emmzett, Jimm Tronic, Rainer Lauer, and Tillmann. Their collaboration is the result of a shared journey through various meetings and gatherings aimed at expanding their own musical styles and honing their skills. The well-known musician and EM producer Stefan Erbe provided this project with the necessary support and laid the groundwork that allowed their ideas to evolve into a full-fledged album. Signals of the Monolith shifts between different genres of electronic music, demonstrating just how varied the path to semi-professional release of one’s own works can be. The connection thrives on the contrast between native patterns and sparkling ideas born of sound and successful composition. Each act created their track, scrutinized it, and took it to the next level. The process of composition, the search for the right sound, and the finalization of the narrative arc was not only a learning process but also the realization that one possesses many possibilities within oneself that one would never have believed existed. It is the first signal that is now beginning to shine. ================================== s475e – 12,21 https://www.groove.nl/shop/s475e-1221/ ![]() 1/ something comes into being – 4.32 2/ sirius – 4.38 3/ angels and the movement of galaxies – 3.49 4/ wide foggy landscape – 4.43 5/ floating in space – director’s remix – 6.31 6/ sound of forgotten realms – 3.58 7/ state of mind after midnight – 4.54 8/ memories of last days – 4.15 Darius Speier, the creative force behind this project, is a master of crafting atmospheric musical abstractions… The focus lies on the sonic ether generated by synthesizers—sounds that, much like the swirling cover art, seem to warp space and time, drawing the listener into a kind of musical hypnosis. Within this sonic space, space-inspired sounds meet melodies reminiscent of the Tangerine Dream cosmos… provided the listener takes the time to actively engage with the album. The music on the album moves between ambient, soundtrack, and electronic genres, distinguished by progressive elements. It paints sound landscapes and tells stories. The album begins on a cheerful note but grows increasingly darker as it progresses. And in a way, the final track could just as easily be the first, because it is only after these events that something new has truly begun. |
