Stefan Erbe – Metamorphosys
https://www.groove.nl/shop/stefan-erbe-metamorphosys/?v=1a13105b7e4e

Erbe’s third multimedia story about his android protagonist GENE strives for perfection on three different levels. Whether it’s the music, the visual images or the story itself, all elements share a common intuition and ask the same question: when is something really perfect?
As in the previous story from 2023, Erbe blends the music with self-designed visuals and once again presents a complex and AI-generated universe of future thoughts and emotional developments of synthetic characters facing their own contradictions and moral choices. Of course, this theme is not entirely new, but Erbe presents it in a very special way. Music, images and story form a unity that has never been seen before. On the one hand, you get the feeling that Erbe’s musical ideas are clear to decipher and that you can completely immerse yourself in the presentation of the story.

Nevertheless, he remains vague in his descriptions and leaves visitors plenty of scope for their own interpretations. No detail reveals the final meaning, but offers a variable motivation for the personal point of view.
Of course, the music on the current album also works excellently without the concert images. This time, the 12 tracks manage without additional vocals and atmospheric narrative elements and once again convey a narrative style that comes to a close in a spectacular finale.
The music therefore does not follow on from the concept of the previous album, but once again opens up a completely new chapter of unheard musical elements, embedded in Erbe’s unmistakable sound of sequenced melodic structures, the deeply interwoven drum textures and his always very changeable sound aesthetics. However, Stefan Erbe remains true to himself in one thing. His great art of creating a 65-minute arc of suspense that fits almost every BPM category is a key element of his success over the last three decades.
While Stefan Erbe categorized the previous GENESYS23 album as “Eletronical”, his current concept should perhaps be described as “Imagical”.

Whatever a fitting description might be, Stefan Erbe is inexorably following the path of change and pursuing his own kind of hoped-for musical perfection with the album Metamorphosys. Perhaps even that of producing a final album at some point and being able to say that it simply can’t get any better. But this misconception is probably the perfect reason to just keep going and never end with the pursuit of musical perfection.

Remy – Exhibition of Dreams 25th Anniversary (2CD)
https://www.groove.nl/shop/remy-exhibition-of-dreams-25th-anniversary-2cd/?v=1a13105b7e4e

In the summer of 1999 I moved all my equipment to the attic at my friend Ewout’s home. Earlier that year there was made a selection of tracks which had been composed in the previous two years, and which was likely to appear on the final version of my debut release “Exhibition of Dreams”. The basis of the tracks was recorded on my brave old Atari computer. Because the original recordings were made with minidisc, without the possibility to dub anything or edit afterwards, all tracks had to be recorded in just one take.
In the two weeks of recording sessions there had been recorded quite some different takes of the same tracks, of which the best recordings were selected to appear on the album. In December 1999 the final double cd-r version of “Exhibition of Dreams” was distributed in a limited number of copies through several music stores in the Netherlands. After having sold the album to family and quite some enthusiastic people, one copy reached Dutch electronic music label and mailorder Groove Unlimited, which released my first official cd-release “The Art of Imagination” nearly a year later. As a result it was decided that the production of “Exhibition of Dreams” was not being continued. However, ten years later, the original recordings from 1999 were remastered entirely, and an official factory pressed double cd of “Exhibition of Dreams” could finally be heard by a larger audience. To expose the development made in the past ten years, I also recorded and released newly arranged versions of a selection of the tracks of “Exhibition of Dreams”, as “EoD” (later renamed to “Exhibition of Dreams revisited”).Although “Exhibition of Dreams” celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024, there was decided not to have another remaster, limited edition, or whatsoever, but let you experience the music from the 2009 remaster, just as it was intended to sound. The previous packaging for the 10th anniversary was customized, and has been sold out in the meanwhile. And so have the 20th anniversary limited editions. For the remaining cd stock there was decided to produce this packaging. The artwork of this release has been revisited and derrived from the original images.
For the completion, the 20th anniversary artbook has been included. Containing background information, stories and photos, offering a complete overview of this well-respected electronic music album.Enjoy the music!Remy Stroomer, January 2024

Olivier Briand and Mourad Aît Abdelmalek – The Dream of the Blue Mandarin (CD-DVD)
https://www.groove.nl/shop/olivier-briand-and-mourad-ait-abdelmalek-the-dream-of-the-blue-mandarin-cd-dvd/?v=1a13105b7e4e

An improvised reinterpretation of some Tangerine Dream compositions by the duo Nomad Hands, which draws inspiration from great classics like Rubycon, Ricochet, Strastosfear, etc., and delivers new musical possibilities, all this documented by a “making of” DVD.Passionate about instrumental experimentation, the duo Nomad Hands (Olivier Briand and Mourad Aît Abdelmalek) explores here a reinterpretation of the musical freedom of the 70s, inspired by the iconic group Tangerine Dream. The album concludes with Kurt Ader and Johannes Schmoelling’s live cover of White Eagle at Synthfest 2018.In this tribute, Olivier and Mourad have managed to extract the essence of the Tangerine Dream group’s compositions without distorting them. The spirit of the pieces is preserved and they are enhanced by Olivier’s experience as a sound designer and musician, as well as by the superb and relevant percussion and rhythm choices perfectly mastered by Mourad. The DVD: it is with great emotion and desire that I viewed the summary of a work and challenge started 7 years ago. In the DVD we can observe all the creativity, sound research, consultation and complicity that Olivier and Mourad demonstrated to bring this magnificent project to fruition.
