Erik Wøllo – Earthshine [limited] https://www.groove.nl/shop/erik-wollo-earthshine-limited/ Limited Edition of 300 copies, in 4-panel Digipak Earthshine is the sunlight reflected from the earth’s surface that illuminates the dark part of the moon not directly lit by the sun. Earthshine, the album, unfolds as abstract electronic soundscapes carried on a surreal, buoyant current. The 20 short tracks crossfade into one another to form a continuous sonic journey. Layers of processed drones and sequencer pulses alternately rise into expressive statements and subside into hushed, sparse moments, shaping visual impressionistic inner expanses. The magic here is the way the album shifts and transforms as the elements combine. As a metaphor, earthshine evokes concealed beauty and indirect influence, the ability to sense the whole beyond the immediately visible. It speaks to casting light into another’s darkness, to exposing resilience through openness, and to the subtle, enduring effect of unseen support. Earthshine reveals a spacious and timbral side of Wøllo’s work. The album was recorded to analog 4 and 8 track tape machines then transferred to computer for further arranging and mixing. Returning to tape altered Wøllo’s compositional approach: the slower, more deliberate workflow encouraged new methods, allowing sounds to breathe and loosen.
“When the tape is running,” Erik reflects, “something affects me, I descend into myself, realizing music completely in the moment. I wanted to go back to the way of recording I was into in the 1980s, using old analog tape recorders. How would it affect my compositional process? Would it take me in other compositional directions? Compare it to writing a novel with a pencil instead of a computer. The unhurried measured approach was more time-consuming and led me to make different creative choices. It turned out that the music became more fluid and open-ended.” The analog medium imparted warm saturation and subtle harmonic coloration, adding depth and silkiness to the mixes; the instrumental elements merge with organic cohesion. With an emphasis on deep tones and interlaced ambient tributaries, Wøllo sculpts a vivid listening experience for the imagination. Earthshine is an investigation of mood, surface and narrative, a compelling statement extending the boundaries of electronic expression.===================================== In this coming week!! Steve Roach – The Current above – Immersion Seven https://www.groove.nl/shop/steve-roach-the-current-above-immersion-seven-limited/ Limited Edition of 500 copies, in 4-panel Digipak The Current Above – Immersion Seven embraces the sonic senses within a beautifully expansive 76-minute steady-state zone. Designed for infinite low-volume playback, the album’s sole track “The Current Above” continues the evolution of the long-form immersion series of intimate ambient recordings Steve began in the late-90s. The caress of slowly-unfolding cascades of shimmering textures and diaphanous atmospherics makes for the ideal soundworld for one’s habitat. It’s a delicate and nurturing environment for creative states, sleeping, reading, meditation and other settings where understated sonic incense can gently hold the space. Steve Roach is a leading American composer, performer and icon in the evolution of ambient/electronic music. Steve is renown for his pioneering role in shaping the genre through deeply immersive, atmospheric and engaging soundscapes over more than four decades. Within his massive catalog Steve has received two Grammy nominations for Spiral Revelation (2017) and Molecules of Motion (2018). He’s equally prolific in the live setting creating legendary real-time mesmerizing experiences in venues from cathedrals to intimate settings. Alongside all this he maintains an unbroken focus from a life dedicated to the soundcurrent at his longtime Timehouse studio in Baja Arizona. ===================================== Robert Schroeder – Evolution https://www.groove.nl/shop/robert-schroeder-evolution/ ![]() out 17th September. With *Evolution*, Robert propels us yet another step further into the deep realms of electronic soundscapes. Always on the lookout for new effects and thrilling sonic experiences that immerse you in dreamlike atmospheres. Occasional stylistic touches reminiscent of Schroeders *Paradise* and *Mosaique*, as well as first-class sequences in the style of Klaus Schulze, transform this new work into a dreamlike journey. At times bizarre, at times harmonious, then mysterious again, then delving into the depths, and always captivatingly enriched with three-dimensional effects. ===================================== NOW INSTOCK!! Mike Oldfield – Mike Oldfield’s The Orchestral Hergest Ridge https://www.groove.nl/shop/mike-oldfield-mike-oldfields-the-orchestral-hergest-ridge/ ![]() Mike Oldfield feat. Steve Hillage – *The Orchestral Hergest Ridge* (Live, Audio Vaults) is a live recording that reimagines one of the absolute masterpieces of British progressive music. The album presents an orchestral version of *Hergest Ridge*—a suite originally released in 1974—revisited here in a symphonic format with a broader, cinematic scope. The inclusion of Steve Hillage adds a psychedelic and lyrical guitar element that engages in a dialogue with the orchestra and Oldfield’s characteristic minimalist structures. The result is a rich, meditative, and dynamic sonic flow that expands upon the original work’s pastoral and progressive atmospheres. This Audio Vaults edition captures an intense, rare performance, offering a fresh take on one of Mike Oldfield’s most iconic works—blending experimentation, classical music, and rock sensibilities. ===================================== BACK IN STOCK!! This Bureau B reissue brings back a seminal Krautrock and German electronic album, presenting its full sonic richness in a new edition. |
