Bureau B’s latest reissue takes us back to the ‘Berlin-School’ of kosmiche and krautrock in the early 1980s, and the formative portion of synthesizer obsessive Dieter Schutz career. Inventions was first released on vinyl in 1983, and sees Schutz join forces with friend and fellow electronic music enthusiast Adelbert Von Deyen. The pair had been working together since the mid 1970s, and on Inventions it shows. Opening with the gloriously hybrid electronic/acoustic proto-Balearic wonder of ‘The Awakening’, the pair guides us through a serious of grandiose, synth-heavy, melody-rich and frequently surprisingly rhythmic soundscapes – and even a three-part ‘Lunar Opera’. As cosmic and spacey as they come, and then some.
